2005年に結成した日本のオルタナティブロックバンド。 2007年にUK PROJECTから1st EP「THE NOVEMBERS」をリリース以降、毎年ワンマンツアーを行い、年々会場の規模を大きくしながらもその都度ソールドアウト。国内の大規模なロックフェスティバルでは「ARABAKI ROCKFEST.」「ROCK IN JAPAN FESTIVAL」「COUNTDOWN JAPAN 」「RUSH BALL」などに出演。
2012年からはiTunes storeで世界62か国への楽曲配信を開始。海外バンドの来日公演のサポートも増えWild Nothing、Thee Oh Sees、ULTERIORとも共演。そして、台湾の「MEGAPORT FESTIVAL」にも出演し、国内だけでなく海外からの注目も高まる。
メンバーのソロ活動としては、小林祐介はソロでの弾き語り以外に、CHARAのライブサポート及び音源制作や、L’Arc-en-Cielのyukihiroのソロプロジェクトであるacid androidのライブギタリストを務める。ケンゴマツモトは、映画監督である園子温のポエトリーリーディングセッションなどにも参加し、更に活動の幅を広げる。
音楽以外の分野からも注目も高く、「Harem」（GIFT収録）のPVは映画「白痴」の監督である手塚眞がディレクターを務め、「dogma」（Fourth wall収録）のPVは映画「おそいひと」の監督である柴田剛が監督を務めた。
アーティスト写真は「Vivienne Westwood」や「Miu Miu」などのポートレートを撮影するアンダース・エドストロームや、「agnès b」のショーで作品集が取り上げられた花代が撮影。特にファッションとの関わりは深く、「LAD MUSICIAN」の2012-13A/Wのコレクションのミュージックとしてライヴを行い、その模様は宇川直宏主催の「DOMMUNE」で生放送された。 2013年9月末までにUK PROJECTから計8枚の音源をリリース。
2013年10月からは自主レーベル「MERZ」を立ち上げ、自分たちのやり方で自分たちなりの成功を掴みに行く。
THE NOVEMBERS is a Japanese alternative rock band formed in 2005.
After releasing the first EP “THE NOVEMBERS” from UK Project (Label) in 2007,
they have constantly sold out their headlining shows every year to ever-growing audiences.
Nationally, they performed at “ARABAKI ROCKFEST”, “ROCK IN JAPAN FESTIVAL”, “COUNTDOWN JAPAN”, and “RUSH BALL”.
In 2012 they started distributing songs on iTunes Store in 62 countries.
International attention brought them to share stages with Wild Nothing, Thee Oh Sees, and Ulterior, and appear at “MEGAPORT FESTIVAL” in Taiwan.
Yusuke Kobayashi not only plays solo, but also plays with Japanese pop star CHARA as a support guitarist and produces her music
as well as plays with Acid Android, a solo project of Yukihiro from L’arc-en-Ciel.
Kengo Matsumoto’s broad interests lead him to participate in poetry reading sessions organized by Film Director Shion Sono.
They have garnered reputations in other fields as well. The music video for “Harem” (from 3rd ep “GIFT”) was directed by Macoto Tezuka, known for his film “Hakuchi”
and the music video for “dogma”(from 4th ep”Fourth wall”) was directed by Tsuyoshi Shibata, known for his film “Late Bloomer”.
Their promotional photos were shot by Anders Edstrom who also shoots portraits for “Vivienne Westwood” and “Miu Miu”,
and Hanayo, whose photo collections have been featured at shows by “agnès b”.
The band’s deep association with fashion made it possible to perform a live set at 2012-13A/W collection by “LAD MUSICIAN” and it was live-streamed on Dommune organized by Naohiro Ukawa.
So far, they released a total of 8 albums from UK Project.
With their own music label “MERZ” to be founded in October 2013, they are ready to achieve their own success in their own way.
